Course objectives:
|
The aim of this course is to provide students with competencies for teaching National History and Geography in terms of subjects about nature and society at a primary school. Students will acquire necessary knowledge and skills and they will be able to cope with educational analysis and transformation of the propriate educational curriculum. They will be acquainted with theoretical and partly practical (through concrete examples) methodology of teaching curriculum about nature and society, in the context with previous competencies acquired in the general pedagogical and psychological disciplines.

Submission of written elaboration of requested assignments; fulfilment requirements of written test; create and present PowerPoint presentation on a given topic.

Content
|
The course includes these items:
1. Methodology of teaching National History and Geography as a discipline and its importance at primary school, didactic transformation of scientific knowledge of various teaching of National History and Geography.
2. Origin and development of teaching of National History and Geography, the basic characteristics of development stages of subjects focused on nature and society.
3. Teaching of National History and Geography in teaching schemes of selected countries and comparison with Czech Republic.
4. Teaching approaches to National History and Geography at present / in terms of the educational programs for Elementary Schools, National Schools.
5. Teaching approaches to National History and Geography at present ? focused on one of the educational areas in FEP EE - Man and his world.
6. Methodological and factual analysis of the content of present school National History and Geography (cartography, child?s orientation in space, selected general knowledge of physical and socio-economic geography, physical and socioeconomic characteristics of a local region of our country, Europe and the world, etc..
7. Methodological and factual analysis of the content of present school National History and Geography /continuation/.
8. Inter-subject relations in horizontal and vertical level, Cross-curricular subjects in FEP EE.
9. Formation of ideas, concepts, skills and habits and development of reasoning in National History and Geography. Teaching principles and methods and their specificity in teaching of National History and Geography.
10. Organizational forms.
11. Specific teaching materials in teaching of National History and Geography.
12. Educational aspect of teaching of National History and Geography.
13. National History and Geography in the SEP.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
- to grasp the content and position of methodology of teaching National History and Geography in the framework of other teaching disciplines;
- to grasp the position and significance of National History and Geography curriculum through knowledge of historical background, development of teaching National History and Geography in our schools, curricular documents and education system and through some examples from abroad;
- to acquire scientific terms and complete their knowledge;
- to grasp the basic patterns and relationships related to National History and Geography curriculum;

Skills - skills resulting from the course: |
- to be able to formulate main and partial objectives of teaching National History and Geography and incorporate them into the SEP;
- to be able to cope with didactic analysis and transformation of curriculum;
- to grasp the basic patterns and relationships related to National History and Geography curriculum and to be able to conform it to the age of the pupils, the local region as well as the general requirements reflected in curricular documents;
- to be able to use particular methods used in teaching of National History and Geography;
- to be able to assess the various educational means for teaching of National History and Geography and select them and in some cases even create them (e.g. PowerPoint presentation, DVD, photos, diagrams, worksheets, etc.);
- to be able to conform their methodology to the level and needs of pupils and conditions of the schools and the region;
- to be able to guide the teaching of National History and Geography in order to develop pupils´ key competencies;
- to able to integrate cross-curricular subjects into teaching of National History and Geography and cope with educational issues of discipline;
- to be able to integrate knowledge of various disciplines (students will acquire primarily learning competency, communication competency, social competency and problem-solving competency; as regards professional competencies of teachers, students will acquire organizational and managerial skills, didactic competency, communication competency and competency to assess their own activities; they will also broaden their knowledge in their branches); |
