Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with key sociological concepts. Sociology is defined as a specific form of knowledge. The course deals with its relations to other social sciences as well as with further important issues - the process of socialisation, social interactions in everyday life, social phenomena, social groups, important institutions and organisations of both - modern and traditional society. The course involves reading of sociological literature dicussed during the classes. The course is designed with regard to students of paramedical fields of study.

2. Socialization. Sociological theories of socialization. Forms of socialization. Statuses and roles.
2. Gende and sex. Gender socialization and gender roles. Gender, life-cycle and health.
4. Sociology of family. Family as institution. Transformation of family and intimate life. New forms of families.
5. Methods and techniques of sociological research. Quantitative and qualitative research. The role of sociological research in the health care.
6. Sociology of health and illness. Develepment of the field. Sociology of medicine and sociology of medicine.
7. Concepts of health and illness. Sociological perspectives on health and illness. The model of sick role.
8. Hospital as organization. The role of doctor and nurse. The development of the status of patiens.
