Course objectives:
|
The course is designed for intermediate students. Students will achieve language competence of B1 according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Requirements on student

- active participation in class, attendance is obligatory
- accomplishment of homework assignments
- submission of 2 writings
- final test (75% to pass)

Content
|
1. Course information, introduction. Passive voice.
2. Articles. Reported statements and questions. A description of a place.
3. Reported requests and commands. Defining relative clauses. Making formal phone calls.
4. Abstract nouns. Countable and uncountable nouns. Giving your opinion.
5. Wish sentences. Describing a picture. Would. Expressions with "lose" and "lost". Expressing sympathy.
6. Second conditional. Expressions with "make" and "do". Third conditional.
7. Midterm test. Past modals of deduction. An essay.
8. Verbs followed by "-ing" and infinitive with "to". Comparatives and superlatives. Giving and accepting compliments.
9. Verbs followed by prepositions. An informal email.
10. Books and reading. Verb form review. A thank-you note.
11. Reflexive pronouns. A farewell email or speech. Synonyms.
12. Final revision. Final Credit test

- distinguish basic countable and uncountable nouns |
- identify verb WOULD for habitual actions in the past |
- distinguish zero and first conditional |
- name modal verbs of deduction for present situations |
- distinguish comparative and superlative form of adjectives |
- distinguish the structure of questions and negatives with all basic grammar tenses |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
- analyze a short text in the newspaper, magazine or on the internet on a general topic |
