Course objectives:

This course is designed for upper intermediate students of English. The aim of the course is to help students achieve a more fluent and accurate use of English, and to improve their use of current vocabulary and phraseology. By means of informal conversations, discussions and other speaking activities, students will have the opportunity to improve their speaking skills, including the ability to express themselves clearly, defend their opinions and react appropriately to the opinions of others.

Introduction to the course; Discuss speaking experience and ideas of good conversation;
Speaking about weather and seasons; describing nature.
Agreeing and disagreeing; Island survival activity.
Discussion on controversial issue: Gay marriage and parenting.
Great Czechs; Politeness and rudeness.
Discussion on controversial issue; Family tree (relatives).
Relationships and marriage: roles and expectations.
Driving; Using a map; Describing locations in the country.
Describing houses and flats;
Czech education system; University departments.
Discussion on controversial issue.
Czech system of government; Discussing books and films.
The lessons may include various other speaking activities; for example discussions about current events.
