Course objectives:

Academic English course is designed for students who are preparing to study in English at university level. Students will systematically practise and develop key language and academic skills, which are important for studying in English. The course is based on authentic content from university textbooks and videos of lecture extracts and it requires advanced English competence equal to at least level B2 according to CEFR. After completing the course students should reach level B2+ according to CEFR.

Requirements on student
|
Course credit requirement: a student must obtain minimum 75 points for the whole course to pass the subject and receive ECTS credits.
Course requirements consist of the obligatory part which includes 1) 75% course attendance (18 classes); 2) 4 homework assignments with specified DEADLINES; 3) Final test. The voluntary part includes 4) Moodle course
Attendance requirements: 75% course attendance is obligatory to qualify for course credits Every class attended is worth 1 point, therefore, at least 18 points must be obtained.
Assignment 0 (not evaluated) Essay topics and outline.
Assignment 1 (up to 10 points): Select 10 scientific sources (research articles from Q1-Q2 journals from WoS Core Collection) that you will work with during the semester and provide a critical literature review (up to 500 words) for why you chose these sources. You can include this critical review in your semester work.
Assignment 2 (up to 10 points): Choose 1 research article for which you will write a summary (up to 500 words).
Assignment 3 (up to 20 points): Write and submit a comparative/contrast essay.
Word count: up to 1500 words +/-10%.
Assignment 4 (up to 20 points): Presentation on the topic of your semester work.
Warning: If the essay or any of its parts is proved to be plagiarised, i.e. if the student takes any part of it from another student or from the Internet or open AI programs, this work will not be recognized.
