Course objectives:

To teach students to communicate effectively in the professional settings of their future careers (social sciences). Students will achieve language competence of B1 according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Requirements on student
|
Requirements for successful completion and combined exam:
- active participation in class, attendance is obligatory
- accomplishment of homework assignments (always by the deadline set by the teacher)
- individual presentation
- combined exam (student´s portfolio, oral exam based on portfolio)
All obligations required for successful completion of the course must be completed by the end of class (13th week) of the semester.

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
- identify different parts of speech |
- distinguish present, past and future simple and continuous |
- identify present perfect tense |
- distinguish first and second conditional sentences |
- identify active and passive sentences |
- distinguish basic prepositions |
- identify different meanings and forms of modal verbs |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
- search for important information in authentic texts on general topics |
- adequately use basic grammar structures |
- summarize the main points of conversations on everyday topics |
- have A2 language competence according to CEFR |
- analyze and summarize simple statements within everyday communication |
- use present, past and future simple and continuous forms correctly and adequately |
- use present perfect tense correctly and adequately |
- choose modal verbs for different meanings appropriately |
- structure a simple text on everyday topic |
