Course objectives:

Studying a foreign language is part of a doctoral program at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FPA UWB). The course is designed for students of doctoral study programs at FA. Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to acquire the ability to work with the professional texts of the given field and to present the results of professional work in Chinese, both in oral and written form. Students choose their own texts (in accordance with their specialization), or texts consulted and agreed by their supervisor.

Requirements for the PhD Study Program Exam: The candidate demonstrates the ability to:
- read a professional text with comprehension and reproduce it - to follow a piece of information, paper, and lecture with comprehension - capture in writing the main ideas of a read or heard text - talk about their work, to discuss and argue about the field - present a report, paper, lecture, discussion paper
The exam is oral, commissioned. Part of the exam is the evaluation of submitted written materials. PhD candidates prepare written materials in the total range of 8 to 12 pages of the writing and submit them at least one week before the date of the doctoral examination. These are the following:
- structured curriculum vitae in a foreign language - 150 pages of studied foreign language text (3 - 5 pages) - continuous scholarly text, representing an extract from the PhD student's own larger work - diploma, dissertation, conference paper (3 - 5 pages).
