Course objectives:
|
The course of academic Czech is intended for foreign students (non-native speakers) of study programmes of UWB taught in Czech who have reached CEFR Level B1+. Students learn not only grammar and vocabulary, but get also acquainted with sociocultural background needed for studying at a Czech university. The aim of the course is to reach CEFR Level B2.
The UJP/CAU6 course loosely follows the UJP/CAU5 course.

Requirements on student
|
Credit requirements:
1. Attendance is compulsory (2 possible absences).
2. Students have to take a midterm test.
3. Students have to pass a final test (min. 75 %).
4. Students have to submit a portfolio of tasks.
5. Students have to give a presentation (8-10 min).
Exam requirements:
The exam is oral and consists of two parts - a monologue on selected topic and a dialogue with the teacher based on the portfolio. The final result is based on the assessment of both parts. The topics are based on the content of the seminars.

Job search, supply and demand. Doing business in the Czech Republic.

Structured CV, upper and lower case writing.

Curriculum vitae - time expressions, adverbs and prepositions.
Week 5
Cover letter.
Week 6
Job interview, rules of formal communication.

Midterm test.
Week 8
Expression of agreement / disagreement, assertive communication.

Verbal and non-verbal communication.

Starting a job, health insurance system, contracts.

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
- distinguish between simple and compound sentences |
- distinguish the forms of nouns of foreign origin |
- distinguish members of so-called second position and explain their hierarchy |
- explain the rules for expressing quantity (numerals, forms of the nouns) |
- distinguish forms of common declension types and widely used nouns of foreign origin |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
- follow the basic rules of Czech punctuation |
- properly use linguistic means for expressing quantity |
- properly use grammatical forms within the appropriate level |
