Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to teach students (non-native speakers) how to communicate in everyday life situations in the Czech language and to equip them with language competence to match CEF level B1.1. The course is a follow-up course to the UJP/CPC1 course.

Requirements on student
|
Credit requirements:
1. Attendance is compulsory.
2. Students have to take a midterm test.
3. Students have to pass a final test (min. 75 %).
4. Students have to give a report / presentation (5-10 min).
Exam requirements:
The exam is oral and consists of two parts - a monologue on selected topic and a dialogue with the teacher on a given communicative situation. The final result is based on the assessment of both parts. The topics are based on the content of the seminars.

Expressing quantity.
Possessive and partitive genitiv.
Week 9
Topic of conversation: Animals.
Nominative plural.
Week 10
Topic of conversation: Work and employment.
CV and job interview.
Week 11
Adverbs - comparative and superlative.
Week 12
Revision for the final test, course summary.
Final test.
Week 13
Correction of the final test. Exam preparation.

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
Students can - take part in a dialogue about everyday life topics - find the main and most important ideas of authentic texts - use common grammar structures in everyday life situations in an adequate way - understand basic information in texts of their field of study (both heard and read) and express their views on such information - use a large common vocabulary from everyday life in an adequate way and use basic terminology of their field of study - write texts of simple structure on general topics

Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
- can use grammatical and lexical means on the B1.1 level with an emphasis on the content of the course
- can choose the appropriate linguistic means with regard to communicative situation
- can deliver a short report related to the content of the course

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
Students can - use common grammar structures in everyday life situations in an adequate way - start a small talk in an adequate way - use with a good degree of certainty vocabulary and phrases enabling them to communicate without problems in situations which require a direct exchange of information - express their opinions and attitudes, belief and uncertainty - write short texts of simple structure used in everyday life (a message, e-mail, response to an advertisement, a request etc.) - write short texts of specialist style - find and select important information in authentic texts which deal with general topics and do not have a complicated structure

- prepare and present a paper on a well-known topic
- write down the main ideas of a spoken interpretation
- analyse a text from the perspective of used language means and classify it as scientific or administrative text
