Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to teach students (non-native speakers) how to communicate in everyday life situations in the Czech language and to equip them with language competence to match CEF level B2. The course is a follow-up course to the UJP/CPC3 course.

Requirements on student
|
Credit requirements:
1. Attendance is compulsory.
2. Students have to take a midterm test.
3. Students have to pass a final test (min. 75 %).
4. Students have to give a report / presentation (5-10 min).
Exam requirements:
The exam is oral and consists of two parts - a monologue on selected topic and a dialogue with the teacher on a given communicative situation. The final result is based on the assessment of both parts. The topics are based on the content of the seminars.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
Students can - understand the main ideas of authentic texts and texts of a specialist style dealing with general topics and of simple structure - find both important and detailed information in texts - understand information in texts of the field of study (both heard and read) - express and justify their opinions - manage even more difficult parts of grammar, distinguish between formal and informal register and decide about suitability of used language means in a specific communicative situation - compensate well their language deficit in a specialist field - write texts of different style and of simple structure

Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
- write a short annotation, abstract and summary of a selected text
- properly use the diacritics in a written speech
- properly use spelling of i/í vs. y/ý after consonants (esp. after the soft and the hard ones)
- make sentences in accordance with the basic rules of sentence structure in Czech |

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
Students can - use common grammar structures in everyday life situations in an adequate way - understand spoken word on TV and the radio corresponding to vocabulary covered in the courses so far - use with a good degree of certainty vocabulary and phrases enabling them to communicate without problems in common situations - express their opinions and attitudes, belief and uncertainty and provide arguments for these - find and select important information in authentic texts - present (in both writing and speaking) their field of study - take an active part in discussions, evaluate suggestions and react to them in an adequate way - write more complex texts on general topics or simple texts dealing with specialist topic

- properly use the linguistic means of both Standard and substandard Czech with respect to the communicative situation
- properly use forms of imperfective and perfective verbs with respect to their meaning
- properly use endings of the L-participle in the past tense in writing
