Course objectives:

The aim of the course (led in English) is to develop intercultural competencies and language skills on the level B2 at the CEF. The course is intended mainly for foreign students with a higher intermediate level of language competences. Interest in social and cultural issues and a willingness to dialogue are expected, as well as potential interest in participating in joint activities of local student and non-student groups related to the issue of intercultural coexistence.

identify the basic means of discourse and corresponding language functions |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
hold a dialogue politely and with an understanding of cultural differences |
take part in discussions with understanding to key information |
interpret a topic, key ideas and key information in a simple text from the area of intercultural communication |
write a summary of a short text from the area of intercultural communication |
give a short presentation of one's own national culture |
reproduce the key idea of the heard presentation |
compare the main features of the value system of one's own national culture with the value system of other cultures |
express an agreement, suggestion etc. |
speak English basically correctly, mostly without the so-called common mistakes in English caused by the interference of one's own language |

identify common grammatical, lexical, idiomatic, pronunciation and intonation errors in one's writting and speaking influenced by the interference of one's own mother tongue |
use vocabulary related to intercultural communication |

identify the causes of cultural collisions |

correct common grammatical, lexical and idiomatic errors in speaking and writing affected by the interference of one's own mother tongue |
hold a dialogue factually, politely and with understanding for cultural differences or participate in a discussion |
comprehensively read and interpret a text from the field of intercultural communication |
correctly interpret the cultural dimensions of the three basic theorists of ICC |
compare the acquired knowledge about individual selected cultures with manifestations of behavior in selected media sources (instructional DVD on cultural diversity, excerpts from selected films) and interpret them

implement a group project on a topic in the field of ICC |
follow a lecture of an invited guest from the field of IKK and respond to it stimulatingly |
