Cílem tohoto kurzu je představit studentům témata, věcná i metodologická, která v současnosti hrají klíčovou roli v diskuzích v rámci politické teorie. Kurz sleduje prolínající se debaty v empirickém i normativním výzkumu politické teorie. Mapuje vývoj a postupné rozrůzňování akceptovaných vědeckých perspektiv a přístupů ke zkoumání. Dále podává základní obrázek o tom, jak se dominantní přístupy v politické teorii proměňují pod vahou politických a společenských změn, ale i v návaznosti na kritickou reflexi jejich nedostatků. Kurz tak představuje stundentům politickou vědu a teorii v její nejaktuálnější podobě, ovlivněné postmodernismem, globálními změnami i novými klíčovými společenskými tématy.

This course focuses on contemporary political theories and their reflection from the perspectives available in the field of political philosophy. Lectures assume knowledge of classical political theories and the basics of empirical theories and their utility in the analysis of political practice. Instead of presenting key authors and their concepts, the course will focus on discussing how the established approaches to research of political matters evolved in recent history, and what are the current trends and key issues in theoretical discussions. The main goal is to explore the ways in which political theory reflects and frames pressing political and social issues, as well as the conceptual tools it provides for their analysis. In this sense, the course represents an introduction to advanced political studies, providing a firm foundation for future specialization of political science students. Lectures will first focus on in-depth analysis of processes in the discipline of political science which may be subsumed under the label "post-behavioural revolution", followed by an overview of the theoretical debates that took places within individual theoretical traditions and across them, with a special regard to debates in the rationalist or economist tradition, pluralism, system-theory, institutionalism, marxism or psychological approaches. Lecture will also explore and discuss the crucial theoretical disputes dividing political science, e.g. the conflict between realism and postmodernism, structuralism vs. poststructuralism or feminist reflection of traditional political science. Seminars will be based on reading and discussion of classical texts relevant to the issues presented in lectures, with the aim to stimulate critical reflection of the coherence and utility of particular theoretical approaches, their meaning-making structures and implications. Critical reflection will always be based on existing theoretical frames and concepts used to deal with issues presented in lectures. |
