Understanding development, poverty and inequalities in times of unsustainability
The course aims to provide students with critical insight into the interdisciplinary research field of development studies in times of geopolitical shifts, climate crisis and decolonization. It offers basic theories, methods, concepts, and basic information about ongoing social changes in the global South and the structure of North-South relations. In practice, the course serves as an entry point to development cooperation in international and global politics: the graduate will be able to use the acquired knowledge in diplomacy, development agencies, international and non-governmental organizations and EU institutions. At the same time, the course provides tools for a critical approach to current discourses and practices in the name of the development and depoliticization of global governance. Teaching methods will strengthen students' skills in text and video analysis, critical thinking, academic writing and research plan management, as well as presentation, participation, teamwork and sensitivity in a multicultural environment.
