The aim of this course is to provide an overview of the history of philosophy and basic philosophical conceptions of classical antiquity and the Middle Ages. Students are acquainted with important philosophers of classical antiquity and the Middle Ages, with their works, thoughts and the influence they had on the development of culture and of the natural and social sciences. Students learn to divide classical antiquity and the Middle Ages into periods and understand relevant philosophical concepts in their historical development. Particular features of ancient and medieval philosophy will be presented by means of selected key texts significant for both periods.
