The aim of the course is to introduce shifts in the understanding of the meaning, role and position of art in European thought and culture from the beginning of the 19th century to the beginning of 21st century. relations of art with other intellectual and spiritual disciplines. In this context, special attention will be paid to Hegel's reflections on the development and position of art. The course also focuses on theories of the 19th century, which in various contexts highlight the importance and possibilities of art. Considerable attention will be paid to reflections on the boundaries of art, in which the topic of the principle of art opens up in a new way, especially the relationship between art and craft, as well as art and technology. However, attention will be paid to the modernist movement, changes in the approach to art in the context of modernist considerations, as well as the response to modernist considerations in postmodern thinkers. The lecture will also acquaint with selected key topics of theoretical considerations of the second half of the 20th century, which are the death of the artist, the end of art or the end of art history. The lecture will also focus on the relationship between "high" and "low" art and between art and popular culture. Finally, the lecture will introduce the topics of contemporary reflection, especially the question of the relationship between the autonomy of art and its social involvement. An integral part of the course will be an overview of the theoretical and institutional development of care for artistic and cultural monuments from the 18th century to the present.
