The seminar is conducted in Russian. It is intended for students of European Cultural Studies. It is focused on further enhancing linguistic knowledge and competence and includes also translating and interpreting. The attention is paid to reading techniques of more challenging general and specialist texts, their clarification, comprehension and application from the viewpoint of the relation of the language and the subject matter conveyed. Analyses work on the pragmatic comprehension of both general and specialist language and they attempt to point out linguistic peculiarities of the language not only at the morphological and syntactic level, but primarily at the semantic level. Special attention is drawn to both formal and conceptual analysis of terminology and equivalent formulation in mother tongue. Application exercises are a constituent of the course with the aim of not only raising students' awareness of the variety of more challenging texts, but mainly lead the students to correct and accurate productive competence.
