The aim of the course is to acquaint students with a general overview of the development of modern and contemporary historiography from the early 16th century to the late 19th century (historiography humanist, Baroque, Enlightenment, the beginnings of modern historiography in the 19th century). The specific historiographical issues and challenges: The main schools of thought of the 17th century and their reflection in historiography; basics "scholarly historiography"; Pre-Romanticist and romantic philosophy of history; liberal historiography; classical German Historical School; penetration of positivism in historiography; Historical School Jaroslav Goll and his followers; Marxist historiography, historical materialism; Joseph Baker and T. G. Masaryk - a dispute over the meaning of Czech history; Crisis classical historicism and new trends in historiography in the 19th and 20th centuries; national economic history, cultural history, social history; Search sense of history in the 20th century; Understanding of history, "the spirits of history"; Annales school; American historiography, "New History"; historical science after 1945, "New economic history", historical demography, quantitative methods, the specifics of German postwar historiography; postmodern challenge in historiography and return narration of "linguistic turn" in historiography, the interdisciplinary nature of modern historical research; micro-history and the history of everyday life, "new cultural history", prosopography, gender history, cultural anthropology; Czech postwar historiography (1945 - present).
