The lessons will present the key moments of the history of the Far East in the 19th and 20th century. The emphasis will be placed mainly on the history of China, Japan and Korea. The lecturer will concentrate on the modernization of these countries in the 19th century and their relations with the Western Powers. The attention will then be focused on the rise of the Japanese militarism and its expansion to Asia and on the history of communist China.
