na setkávání a střetávání evropské civilizace s jinými kulturními

The main aim of the course will be survey, description and analysis of the emergence and development of the Western civilization as a specific social and cultural phenomenon in a broader historical, political, religious, economical, intellectual and environmental context. Special attention will be paid to the period of Antiquity, Middle Ages and Early Modern Age. The attention will be paid to the works of the great thinkers having tried to encapsulate the understanding of special European cultural identity and creativity (Oswald Spengler, Arnold Toynbee, William McNeill, Jacques Barzun, Christopher Dawson, Fernand Braudel).
