The aim of the course is to equip future German primary school teachers with theoretical knowledge and linguistic competencies for developing effective German lessons for young learners at primary level, or how to design and teach an optional German course at primary school. The course focuses on using literary texts in teaching German to young learners. Students obtain basic knowledge of German literature for children, an overview of German children´s literature from The Middle Ages to the present. Considering early learning stage methodology and primary school pupils´ needs, suitable texts must be chosen such as nursery rhymes, tongue twisters, odd one outs, poems, songs, fables, comics and their usage must be adjusted to early German education. The students enrich their portfolio by examples of didactic processing of texts.
