The course is intended for students with special interest in the subject-matter. It is especially intended for students who are conducting or are planning to conduct a research in a socially marginalized ethnic, religious or other minority group. During the course the problems connected with conducting research in marginal social groups will be discussed: theoretical and epistemological problems, problems connected with the choice of suitable methods for collecting and analyzing data and problems connected with applying special research methods. Last but not least, the ethics of conducting research and ethical problems connected with publishing of the results from research will be discussed.
Part of the course can take the form of the guided but individual work of the students. Guided study-hours will be dedicated to close readings of the required texts in full length. The texts will be subjected to collective discussions during class meetings.
