The thematic unit of the course is connected with the art of the modern period from the Renaissance, Mannerism and Dutch Realism through the Baroque and Rococo to Classicism, Romanticism and Realism. In the process of moving from a linear conception of history to a coherent principle of interrelationships across stylistic periods, cross-cutting themes such as the relationship between the early Italian Renaissance and 15th-century Dutch Realism as an interpretative problem will be reinforced in the course design - compared to HUPR1. The aim is to acquire the knowledge and skills to interpret and work actively in art education with the knowledge of art history so conceived. The conception of the Baroque period styles, which instead of the traditional territorial conception according to individual countries, focuses on the stylistic movements - Baroque Realism, Radical Baroque and Baroque Classicism - and their relationship to the currents of thought of the time (Reformation, Counter-Reformation, Cartesian Rationalism), will enable students to understand the internal structure of the works and to treat them in a creative way in art education. Instead of isolating the artistic modes - architecture, sculpture and painting - the emphasis will be on the Baroque as a unified stylistic expression (Gesammkunstwerk) and the confrontation of Classicism and Romanticism as a process from objective order to subjective experience. The final cross-cutting theme is the relationship between 19th-century Realism and Impressionism as a transition from a post-Renaissance artistic order to the "prenatal" phase of modern art. |
