Course objectives:
|
The goal of this course is to introduce students to the terminology of linguistics, assist them in acquiring knowledge of the system of linguistic means, explain meanings of linguistic terms, consolidate secondary school -taught knowledge of phonetic qualities of language, morphemics, morphology, syntax, word formation, lexicology, stylistics and text analysis.

Essential linguistic terminology, language system and structure, linguistic disciplines, typology and classification of languages
Linguistics and its development
Phonetics and phonology terminology phonetic transcription, sound classification, suprasegmental features
Morphology terminology parts of speech, classification criteria, a morpheme, morpheme analysis, nominal categories
Morphology terminology (cont.) - conjugation, verbal categories, verbal forms systems
Morphology terminology (cont.) - parts of speech characteristics, declination types
Lexicology terminology a word, vocabulary, lexical meaning, lexical units relations
Word formation terminology ways and processes of word formation, word formation analysis, word formation category, word formation type
Syntax terminology sentence and utterance, syntactical and semantic relations, sentence constituents
Syntax terminology (cont.) - functional sentence perspective, text condensation tools, construction peculiarities in utterance building
