Course objectives:

Students of this course become acquainted with the key concepts in the world of business. Work with documents with fixed formats (e.g. annual report, market report or balance sheet) where emphasis is on learning the specific vocabulary and the ability to decode the given information, and with business news with emphasis on their understanding and interpreting.

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
to have the knowledge of spoken and written English corresponding to the independent user B2 according to CEFR |
to have good knowledge of morphosyntax of English |
to define the fundamental specialist linguistic terminology from the field of morphosyntax |
to have a basic knowledge of English vocabulary from the commercial field |
to have a basic knowledge of economic situation and developments in the Czech Republic and in English-speaking countries |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
to formulate adequately the main ideas of the authentic text from the commercial field |
to distiguish characteristic features of English as an analytical language |
to translate correctly selected parts of texts from English into Czech |
to summarise the main ideas of listening comprehension exercises |
to carry out the basic morphosyntactic analysis of texts |
