Course objectives:
|
The aim of the subject is offer to students the overview of user properties of power semiconductor devices, inform them with term interference of power electronic converters, properties of basic rectifiers topology, choppers, inverters and frequency converters.

Requirements on student
|
Get credit: active attendance at laboratory (practical) exercises, hand over semestral work, successful control tests. Exam: combine form, knowledge of presented material.

Content
|
1. P/N junction - diode. Bipolar transistor. Unipolar transistor. Bipolar transistor with insulated gate.
2. Thyristor (reverse blocking triode thyristor). Turn off thyristor (GTO, IGCT). Other types of thyristors. Tact and commutation.
3. Chopper for decreasing voltage. Chopper for increasing voltage. DC-DC converter of resistor. Current ripple of DC-DC converters.
4. Basic converter topologies. Inverter types. Single phase voltage-source inverter.
5. Three-phase voltage-source inverter (VSI) at square control. VSI at pulse width modulation (PWM).
6. Rectifier principal function. Controlled star (half wave) rectifier. Real commutation.
7. Full controlled and half-controlled bridge topology.
8. Ripple of rectified voltage and current. Discontinuous current.
9. Converter transformer. Rectifier regulation properties. Comparison of various rectifier types. Rectifier with output LC filter.
10. Single-phase current-source inverter (CSI) at square control. Three phase CSI at square control. Three phase CSI at PWM. Self-commutations rectifiers.
11. Frequency converters. Four-quadrant rectifiers. Indirect frequency converters. Direct frequency converters. .
12. AC switches and voltage converters.
13. Interference.
