Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to deepen students knowledge of the Western literary canon and to equip them for study of literature in philosophical contexts. On classical literary works of epochs and on selected modern works will be demonstrated the relation of literary works to philosophical problems and questions. The seminar practices the applicaton of poetological and naratological tools and demonstrates the possibilities and limits of a chosen interpretation approach (e.g. phenomenology, stucturalism, new historicism).

Requirements on student
|
At the exam, student will declare his/her knowledge of the matter lectured and of texts studied. Oral exam. Individual presentation at a seminar. Submition of a paper (essay, interpretation, critical reading).

Content
|
The introductory lectures are focused on classical literary works and connected philosophical questions (eg. Gilgamesh, Homeric epics, Dante, Shakespeare), which is followed by analysis of modern literature under declared theoretical perspectives. The scope of works and the theoretical approach is semesterly variable.
