Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic pillars of Judaism in the period of the Second Temple and their significance for the character of emerging Christianity. The course will enable students to better understand the points of contact between the two religions, as well as the dynamics with which they were definitively separated.
The course is scheduled once per two years.

During the exam, the student demonstrates knowledge of the lectured material and studied texts.

Content
|
The character of Judaism in the period of the Second Temple; individual factions of the then Judaism; pillars of Judaism - mono-theism, the concept of the chosen people, the Law, the temple; Jesus' relationship to the temple; Jesus' relationship to the Law; the concept of the Messiah / Son of Man; the Jerusalem Judeo-Christian community; diaspora Jews and their role in spreading Christianity; Paul's relationship to Judaism; Paul's conception of freedom from the Law, Nazarenes; ebony; Christianity and rabbinic Judaism as the heirs of the Judaism of the second dam.
