Course objectives:
|
The study of a foreign language is a part of the postgraduate student programme at the FF of the Westbohemian University in Plzeň.
Students in the postgraduate student programme gain foreign language knowledge with the aim to be able to:
- write a structured CV (1 page)
- write an authentic or fictitious business letter according to the norms common in Russian speaking countries (1 page)
- résumé of 150 pages of a professional text in foreign language (3-5 pages)
- coherent text, summary of the doctorand´s own research work (e.g. diploma work, dissertation thesis, conference report (3-5 pages)
This foreign language course is aimed just for students of the postgraduate student programme at the FF of the Westbohemian University.

Requirements on student
|
Student is able to prove following skills during the exam:
- student is able to read and reproduce scientific text
- is able to follow understand an utterance, a paper or a lecture
- is able to get a main idea from the utterance in written or spoken form
- is able to talk about his work, discuss and give arguments on given problem
- to give a speech, paper, lecture or presentation into a discussion
An exam is oral, in front of a committee. Part of the exam is evaluation of materials that were handed in advance (8-12 pages). These have to be given in at least a week before the PhD exam. The documents should include:
- structured CV in foreign language
- resume form 150 pages of a text studied in foreign language (3-5 pages)
- coherent, scientific text, an abstract from student's work ? diploma theses, dissertation or conference presentation (3-5 pages).
