Course objectives:
|
The course is aimed at getting an overview of the developmental specifics of Russian literature of the 19th century compared with the literary development in the countries of Western Europe. The close connection between Russian literature with the historical and political developments in Czarist Russia, and the fact that Russian literature dealt with the issues which in Western Europe have been the subject to the examination of other areas of social consciousness are accentuated. The attention is also paid to the connections of Russian literature with the philosophy and religion. The aim is to demonstrate that the knowledge of the works of prominent Russian writers (Dostoyevsky, Gogol, Pushkin) enables to cover the legitimacy of the internal development of Russia to the large extent.

An active participation, presentation of important artist of Russian literature of the 19th century in terms of its inclusion in the context of European or world literature and the reception of their works in various national literatures. Read and abstract the chapter "Fighting for God. Dostoevsky - a philosopher of history of the Russian problem ". (Masaryk, T.G.: Russia and Europe, vol. 3, pp. 15-14).

1. Characteristics of the so called Golden Age of Russian literature, implicit and
explicit influences involved in the literature development. Taking
poetological impulses of European literatures and their innovative action
in Russian literature.
2. Specific features of the development of Russian literature and culture in the historic
process from the end of 18th century to the end of the 19th century.
3. Czarist censorship, the origin of the opposition literature substituting
the absence of democratic institutions for the whole century.
4. The work of Pushkin and Lermontov in the cultural and social context.
5. Relationship of literature and religion (Orthodox Christianity), Gogol's work in
cultural and social context.
6. - 7. Genre paradigm of Russian literature. Specific features of the genre development of the
Russian novel (Pushkin-Lermontov-Gogol-Turgenev-Chernyshevsky-Tolstoy
Dostoyevsky).
8. Russian idealist philosophy and its influence on literature.
9. Personality and work of L. Tolstoy in the cultural and social context and
its importance for European literature.
10. Personality and work of F. M. Dostoevsky in the cultural and social
context and its importance for European literature.
11. Drama of A. Chekhov in the cultural and social context.
