Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to introduce and explain what is happening in Russia today, to show Russia in a global context and to define the position of Russian as a world language. Lectures focus on selected current topics such as language policy of the RF, Russian in the post-Soviet area (extending beyond the subject KRF / URU), the RF in the complex view, the international geopolitical situation of the RF, current conflicts, the issues of democratization and stratification of Russian society, the phenomenon of Russian emigration, technological development of the country, education etc., and show the broader historical-political-ideological context and interdisciplinary relationships. They explain shaping of the image of the country (national identity, mental mapping, imagology). The course is partly variable and depends on the current social and political situation in the Russian Federation. The course bases a socio-cultural competence and intercultural communication of students. It should be also the preparation and motivation for study stays abroad.
At the seminars, students present their papers and work with authentic news and journalistic texts and precedent texts. They carry out qualitative and quantitative monitoring of Czech media in relation to Russia and the research of Russian news portals. They are encouraged to effectively acquire and analyze information, learn the work with resources. It is pointed out the diversity of interpretations of the same incident. Activities on seminars encourage critical thinking and improve presentation skills of students. Secondarily speaking skills in Russian are practiced.

Requirements on student
|
An active participation in the work in the seminars and discussions in lectures, a seminar paper (4 pages) focused on current events in the Russian Federation in Russian or Czech, an oral presentation on the basis of the paper (15 minutes), an oral summary of news concerning the Russian Federation each week (monitoring of Russian and Czech mass media).
