This course is intended for postgraduates/Masters students. The course is an introduction to the discipline of forensic anthropology. The discipline is the application of the biological anthropology and deals with the identification of human remains in the medical-legal setting. Forensic anthropologists can collaborate with legal medics, police and other authorities with the identification of deceased individuals whose remains are decomposed, burned, mutilated or otherwise unrecognizable. The brief historical development of the discipline will be introduced as well as the methods used for the determination of age, sex and other corporeal attributes from the human remains. Students will be introduced into the foundations of the positive identification method, estimation of the time since death, cause of death, and the manner of death.
