Course objectives:
|
The class introduces basic research methods as used in sociology. It emphasizes mostly quantitative techniques. It guides students through all stages of sociological research: the choice of a research question, formulation of hypotheses, choice of the research design, operacionalization of variables, sampling, data collection and interpretation methods. The class requires that students work on a research project of their own choosing

Students are able to:
- specify basic terms and concepts of sociological methodology
- specify basic methods of quantitative sociological research
- identify advantages and disadvantages of basic quantitative sociological research methods
- suggest own research project
- write own research proposal, eg. students are able to:
- define research questions and hypotheses
- give theoretical reasons for their hypotheses
- design suitable research instrument
- carry out feasibility test of research instrument
