The aim of the course will be to introduce the Czech-German coexistence from the perspective of ethnographical reflection. Special attention will be dedicated to the following thematic areas: German linguistic and cultural region, former and current structuring (political, cultural, linguistic etc.). State and culture in German (Middle European) interpretation. Cultural facts of German speaking states. The overview of German minorities abroad and the ethnological interest in their study. The issues of "ethnic emigration", traditional and immigration national minorities in the Federal Rebublic of Germany. Germany as an example of the anthropological study of complex (post)industrial society. Contemporary "German cultural studies" in foreign countries. From the point of view of the Czech countries the geographical, cultural and linguistic structures of local German population and the history of German ethnography in Czech countries will be introduced, and attention will be paid to its specifics. The thematic blocks devoted to the tragic culmination of the local "national fight" and to the demographic movements accompanying it will conclude the course. Farther, we will pay attention to the stereotypical images of a German in today´s Czech environment and to the former and contemporary research of Czech-German interactions, particularly from the position of intercultural communication.
