Course objectives:
|
To introduce the student to media issues in connection with media education and pedagogy. Learning outcomes of the course unit are to teach the student the understanding of the essence and importance of mass media, to develop his media literacy, including the application of media education and media pedagogy to the school practice in his subject studied. The course will deal with methods of interpretation and analysis of media contents, media strategies, forms of manipulation and rhetoric of contemporary visual, audiovisual and interactive media, including printed media and photography, television news and advertising, film, interactive media and computer games, Internet and risks of social networking.

Requirements on student
|
Credit requirements:
- presentation of a paper dealing with the analysis of selected media content
- the design of a media project on a topic agreed with the teacher (including two compulsory consultations during the creation).
Requirements for passing the exam:
- Obtaining prior credit,
- The exam will be performed as a written test that will examine the basic knowledge about the media, media education and pedagogy,
- Oral interview about the media practice, including the risks associated with the education of children and youth in the field of study.

1. Introduction to media themes - media education/pedagogy and media literacy at school (media literacy and media education as part of general education and education - institutionalization of learning about the media)
2. Media pedagogy and education in the world, development and history
3. Czech system of media pedagogy and education, development and present - RVP and issues of application of media education and media pedagogy to school practice
4. Mass communication, mass media effects, audience and control of media institutions. Media content, forms and genres in the media
5. Analysis of media messages, significance of semiotic pedagogy and semiotic analysis of media messages for educational practice, questions of analysis and use of primary sources of information and secondary interpretation of historical information
6. Media strategies, manipulations and rhetoric of contemporary journalism, specifics of printed media - press, magazines and billboards
7. - 9. Visual literacy, visual and audiovisual rhetoric of media, manipulation in photography, television news, and advertising
10. The importance of film and audiovisual education, the specifics of film genres and the "hybridization" of audiovisual messages, psychology of narrative, film editing and framing
11. Interactive media and computer games, classification, their influence on school youth
12. World as a global village, the role of Internet, risks of social networking and mediated communication
13. Approaches to realization of media education in subject studied - media education as an integrated topic, media education as a separate subject, role of productive activities in media pedagogy
