Course objectives:
|
The aim of this course is to create students knowledge about literar heritage of Middleeastern societies through analysation of chosen classical texts translated into czech language and to help to make more intensive cognition of medieval culture of this region. Important personalities and genres of poetic and prosaic tradition will be introduced to the students, also literar methods presented in traditional works will be researched. Through analysation of the texts students will extend their experiences and knowledge about history, culture and religion of Middleeastern region.

Active participation on readings of chosen and recommended texts. Written test.

Content
|
1. Introduction to the sphere of origin of researched literar traditions.
2. Written fixation of oldest texts (question of autenticity, textual critcism).
3. Traditional religous texts as a literar relic.
4. Poetry 1 (prepositions of formation of poetic tradition, structure of oldest poems).
5. Poetry 2 (historical poetic forms with presentations from chosen works).
6. Poetry 3 (social function of poets).
7. Prose 1 (oldest forms).
8. Prose 2 (high literature).
9. Prose 3 (folk and semi-folk works).
10. Blending of literar traditions (examples of cultural synthesis, acquiring of cultural heritage, translations).
11. The freedom of speech (historical examples of relations of literar authors and govermental structures).
12. Literar works of religious mystics (chosen presentations).
13. Relation of present Middleeastern societies to the ancient and medieval literar heritage.
