Course objectives:

The aim is to extend the knowledge about the natural language and transform the language sciences into one interconnected complex whole.
|
Requirements on student
|
Seminars: oral interpretation and commenting of linguistic texts; oral textual, pragmalinguistic and rhetoric analysis of the texts.
Written examination: the mastery of the subject matter explained, the mastery of the basic literature and linguistic texts interpreted and commented at the seminars.

Content
|
Lessons: Multidisciplinarity ? influential present-day research perspective; SOCIOLINGUISTICS: structure of the community and language; norm, usage, codification; language/speech culture, bilingualism, multilingualism, and diglosie; language management: language planning, language law, threatened languages and their recovery ? ecolinguistics, interlinguistics, language democracy; QUANTITATIVE LINGUISTICS: probability theory, Zipf?s laws, frequency dictionaries; manual and computer corpora, corpus linguistics; MACHINE AND MATHEMATICAL LINGUISTICS: punch card machines, computers, machine translation and its perspectives, algebraic and mathematical linguistics; TEXTUAL LINGUISTICS: text patterns, types of texts, textuality. PRAGMALINGUISTICS: change in linguistic paradigm and its causes, pragmatic factors of speech communication; speech acts, maxims of conversation, politeness and tact in language and speech, irony and lie; nonverbal communication; analysis of discourse, conversational analyses, pragmalinguistic text analyses; RETHORICS: rhetoric genres, generation of rhetoric speech, rhetoric characteristics of the text; ETHNOLINGUISTICS; COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS: cognitive metaphore, language worldview, constants of natural culture.

Interpretation and commentary of linguistic texts.Text analyses from the textual viewpoint.
Pragmalinguistic analyses of publicity texts. Rhetoric analysis of speeches.
