Course objectives:
|
The aim of this course is to make students familiar with differences between viruses, eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, with chemical constitution and life functions of the cell. Another aim is to show them the structure of genetic information and its transfer and adaptation, to explain central dogma and related processes and to familiarize students with research method of molecular biology.

|
1. Eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell - organelles, intercellular connections, chemical composition, cell vital functions
2. Cells - metabolism, movement, communication, transport, growth, reproduction - mitosis, meiosa, etc.
3. Structure of DNA, RNA, proteins, central dogma of molecular biology, genetic code
4. Structure of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic genome
5. Gene families, repetitive sequences, transposable element, organelle genomes
6. Replication, transcription and post-transcriptional modifications
7. Translations and post-translational modifications, regulation of gene expression, methylation and other DNA modifications
8. Cell cycle control, differentiation, apoptosis, mutation, repair, tumor diseases, operons, phage expression, controlled eukaryotic transcription, signal molecules
9. Methods of molecular biology - nucleic acid isolation, centrifugation, electrophoresis, restriction enzymes
10. PCR, cloning, NK labeling, hybridization
11. Sequencing, sequencing of the new generation
12. Chromatography, in vitro translation, FISH, DNA chips
13. CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) and Their Possibilities for the Future
