Course objectives:
|
Present an introduction to the theoretical thinking about literature, especially about artistic creation. Show them that literature is of a specific sign nature and that the substance of all literary forms and genres is communication. Teach the students the methods of theoretical analysis of literature, the poetics of an artistic text and develop the students´ ability to interpret a text in a scientific way.

Requirements on student

1. Written assignment: interpretation of a text in terms of literature theory. 2. Written presentation of a monography from the field of literary theory.

Content
|
Topics of lectures:
1. The subject of literary theory, its methods, sources of reference, methodology of a literary theory.
2. Literature as a means of communication, the fictional worlds of literature. The subjects of literary communication, literary tradition of genesis and reception of a text, subject in a text, the theory of reception, the role of a reader.
3. The structure of a literary text in communication.
4. The language of a literary text and its modifications due to aesthetic reasons. The lexicon of literary text, the principles of semantic transfer, specific syntactic features and their semantic function.
5. Specific sound qualities of a literary text. The types of verse - verse forming factors, prosodic systems, classical metres.
6. Thematic components within the semantic structure of a literary text.
7. The principles of compositions.
8. Genre-forming compositions, basic literary types in genre constants.
9. The genre as a convention determined by a historical convention, the theory of literary genres.
10. The problems of the authors´ styles and literary movements, postmodernism, intertextuality.
