Course objectives:

The course will acquaint students with the terminology of sociolinguistics and provide an insight into the aims and tasks of this branch of study today.

The course consists of the following six modules: 1. Standard English; 2. Register; 3. Analysing spoken language; 4. Gender differences in language use; 5. Language and national identity; 6. English as a lingua franca
