Course objectives:
|
Students gain the theoretical knowledge and skills for teaching the language skills to 8-11 years old children, acquire the procedures used to teach reading with comprehension and writing. They get familiar with the basic theoretical resources and practical principles of language assessment and learn how to work with mistakes. They get familiar with techniques and strategies motivating the learners and developing their autonomy, learn how to use European Language Portfolio and Common European Framework for Languages.

Requirements on student
|
CREDITS
Active participation and cooperation with others in the seminars (group presentation in a foreign language); assignments/tasks e.g. on the basis of weekly reading methodology texts students do some written tasks; extension of portfolio of teaching materials (containing the list of useful resources for planning and teaching English including the Internet resources); self-evaluation of teaching skills (within European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages); successful completion of final test.
EXAM
Oral exam is based on courses ME1, ME2 and ME3. Students demonstrate theoretical knowledge and also practical skill. They get a unit from a primary English course book and should draft a lesson plan for the chosen unit (background information only). Students understand and use appropriate metalanguage.

Teaching the language skills: reading with comprehension and writing, integrating the skills in relations to cross-curricular use;
Assessing the learners' language abilities (language skills and systems), assessment tools; motivation strategies; developing learner's autonomy; European Language Portfolio, Common European Framework for Languages;
teaching materials (different types of teaching materials including course books, criteria for choosing and evaluating the materials, resources, designing and adopting materials).

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |

be familiar with basic principles of effective classroom management of English lessons / including all the items in the detailed lesson plan and basic classroom language;
be familiar with a variety of techniques for the lesson;
be familiar with the principles and procedures of teaching some language skills - listening with comprehension and speaking;
be able to find some language activities in various resources including the Internet;
be familiar with the subject's metalanguage

Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
apply the basic principles of effective management of English lessons /including detailed lesson planning and using basic classroom language;
explain and justifies the use of chosen techniques for the lesson;
describe the principles and procedures of teaching listening with comprehension and speaking;
implement theoretical knowledge about teaching language skill in own lesson planning - either when focusing each skill separately or integrating them;
find some language activities in various resources including the Internet and evaluate how appropriate they are for pupils' language development and for the key competences development;
self-evalute own skills and describes own strengths and weaknesses in English language teaching skills;
use the subject's metalanguage.
