Course objectives:
The course focuses on the basic theoretical approaches to foreign policy, demonstrating them through a series of case studies. Ther course is divided into four parts corresponding to the four levels of analysis (international system, state, substate groups and structures and individual). Foreign policy measures will be analyzed at each level to achieve a complex understanding of foreign policy decision-making processes. The course will also focus on concepts related to foreign policy (national interest, moral foreign policy, etc.), as well as on the basic instruments of foreign policy. During seminars, students will deal with the most pressing issues of international politics and prepare their own foreign policy analyses focusing on the foreign policy of a state actor of their own choice from World War II until today.
Requirements on student
The course concludes with a final written examination. In order to be able to participate in the examinations, students have to fulfill two conditions: 1. oral presentation of their foreign policy analysis during seminars; 2. participation in at least half of the seminars where students will analyze issues from international politics and current foreign policy measures of selected states. Each student has to analyze at least two issues during each seminar.
