Course objectives:
|
The goal is to introduce students to the question of current european political and economic institutions. The course will deal with historical circumstances leading to the establishment of current European institutions, a special attention will be paid to NATO, EEC, EU (and its sub-institutions), WEU, OSCE, CoE, EFTA and CEI.

Requirements on student
|
Final test will reflect knowledge of topics covered in lectures and of readings assigned in syllabus.
Students regularly read assigned texts in Czech and foreign languages and prepare assignments on a regular basis. The assignments are in the form of oral presentations or texts; this will be arranged by mutual agreement between lecturer and students. Assignments will be evaluated by lecturer.
Presentation generally lasts about 10-20 minutes, standard length of papers is 10-20 standard pages (1800 characters with spaces per page).

8. 1st pillar - common policies (monetary union, common agriculural policy)
9. 2nd pillar - common foreign and security policy, relationship with NATO

Learning outcomes
|
Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
After passing the course, students will be able to define international institutions and organisations, and to differentiate among organisations and regimes. Students will be able to classify organisations according to various types of crieteria and to summarize and identify historical roots and causes of European integration. They will be able to classify, name and describe regional European organisations and organisations with global impact (EU, League of Nations and UN, NATO, Council of Europe, OSCE, Council of the Baltic Sea States, ZEU, EFTA, CEFTA, CEI, Benelux, V4). |
