Course objectives:
|
The course concentrates on the issue of classical archaeology with emphasis on the Italian peninsula and Rome. The course will introduce the development of research efforts and key publications. It will focus on the introduction to the study of the Etruscan and Roman period, basic chronological framework and the main sites relevant for the topic.

1) Introduction to classical archaeology. 2) Geography of the ancient world. 3) Transition from prehistoric society to urban settlements. 4) Social and economic characteristics of the Etruscan period. 5) Etruscan architecture, art and material culture. 6) The origins and development of the Roman Empire. 7) Roman urbanism. 8) Roman architecture. 9) Roman art, material culture. 10) Archaeology of ancient landscape. 11) Archaeology of classical relics under the surface of water I. 12) Archaeology of classical relics under the surface of water II.
