Course objectives:
|
The aim of this course is to introduce students in detail to practic activities in an archaological laboratory and conservation workplace.
|
Requirements on student

Participation in the laboratory and conservation procedures in the range given.

Content
|
Training provides students with a thorough introduction to the laboratory investigation and processing of archaeological finds (in particular washing and cleaning, ceramic fragment assembly, vessel reconstruction and completion), their recording (reference number, laboratory record, database), and their packing and storing. Separate attention will be devoted to an introduction to conservation techniques (the conservation of wood, metals, skin, glass and textiles - including a visit to a specialist workplace). The aim of the training is to teach students to independently master laboratory practices and processes, and to lead a laboratory team.

To name possibilities and techniques of laboratory processing, preserving and keeping evidence of archaeological finds |

To be able to organize work at a laboratory workplace during the basic preservation of archaeological finds |
To be able to choose from appropriate methods designed for basic stabilization of artefacts made of different materials |
