Course objectives:

This foreign language course is a part of the Doctoral Degree Programme in the Faculty of Arts at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. The students of this programme will acquire knowledge of a foreign language which is necessary to be able to write: - a structured curriculum vitae in a foreign language (1 page) - an authentic or fictitious business letter meeting the standards required in the Italian speaking countries (1 page) - a resume from a 150 page long text for specific purposes in a foreign language (3-5 pages) - a coherent text introducing the candidate's own comprehensive written work, e.g. diploma thesis, dissertation or an article published at a conference. (3-5 pages) This foreign language course is designed only for the students of the Doctoral Degree Programme in the Faculty of Arts at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň.

Requirements on student

The candidate is capable of:
Comprehensive reading, reproduction of a specialist text
Following a speech, a presentation, a lecture
Recording the main ideas of a written or heard text
Discussing his/her work or his/her specialization
Lecturing a report, a presentation, a contribution
The examination is oral and of a board form. The evaluation of submitted written materials is a part of the examination. The students of the Doctoral Degree Programme are obliged to elaborate 8-12 pages long paper in a foreign language and they have to submit it no later than 1 week before their Doctoral Degree examination of a foreign language. The instructions are as follows:
a structured curriculum vitae in a foreign language (1 page)
an authentic or fictive official letter meeting the standards required in the French speaking countries (1 page)
a résumé from a 150 page long text for specific purposes in a foreign language (3 - 5 pages)
a coherent text presenting the student´s more extensive expert work (e.g. dissertation, contribution at the conference ? 3 - 5 pages)
