Course objectives:
|
To introduce students to the issue of electrical apparatus. To acquaint students with the function and use of electrical apparatus in the electrical network and in electrical circuits of technical devices for consumption and utilization of electric energy. To introduce students to the principles and design of different types of electrical apparatus. To clarify the basics of the theory of electrical apparatus and their behavior in operating and fault states.

Content
|
1. Definition of the term electrical apparatus, main parameters of electrical apparatus, sorting of electrical apparatus (according to main parameters, purpose and function), introduction of individual groups of apparatus.
2. General structure of the electrical apparatus, requirements for electrical apparatus in terms of operating and fault conditions in the electrical network.
3. Heating of the current path of electrical devices by electric current, short and continuous, calculation methods. Force effects of electric current on the current path of electrical apparatus (contacts, fold, coil, change of cross section, adynamic solutions).
4. Analysis of electrical contact problems, contact resistance, theory of electrical contacts, properties and parameters of contacts, methodology of design of contacts.
5. Electrical discharges, spark discharge and switching electric arc, physical processes, dissociation and ionization, basic characteristics, dynamic arc.
6. Basic types of switching electrical apparatus, their functions, parameters and applications. Design solutions and drives.
7. Swithcing principles and their historical development, quenching media, physical processes, operating properties and parameters.
8. Switching in AC circuits, general characteristics, time courses and intervals.
9. Synthetic tests, test disciplines. Terminal and short line faults. Switching off small inductive and capacitive currents, synchronized switching.
10. Switching in DC circuits, rated currents and short-circuit currents, high speed switches.
11. Overvoltage protection, overvoltage types and their parameters, principles of overvoltage protection, overview of used devices, their design and properties.
12. Issues of protection against overcurrents and short circuit currents, basic methods of protection. Low voltage circuits protection, principles and characteristics of protective apparatus and devices. Setting up of protective devices according to their switching characteristics, selectivity and reliability of the protection.
13. Voltage and current instrument transformers. Classification by use, principles, parameters. Design, substitution diagram and characteristics of conventional instrument transformers with ferromagnetic circuit. Other types of voltage and current instrument transformers.
