Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the managerial approach to development of cities and regions: the objectives, tools, trends and Czech and also international experience in city and regional management. The main attention is paid to the usability of business-economic management tools in terms of public policy and public administration, as well as the specifics of the management of cities and regions, respectively of those of local and regional authorities and effective implementation, and change management.

Requirements on student
|
Students are evaluated on a basis of processing and presentation of semester paper (max. 10 points) and passing a written exam (max. 20 points). It is necessary to obtain at least 20 points for successful completion of the course. The written examination can be repeated twice.

Overview of theoretical concepts of local and regional development, respectively municipal and regional policy.
From strategic planning to strategic management of cities and regions.
City and regional management: definition (specifics), objectives and instruments.
Changing managerial functions and roles of local and regional authorities.
Specific areas of city / regional management (decision-making mechanisms, finance, human resource, information, communication, innovation and knowledge, projects, etc.).
Creation, implementation and evaluation of development strategies and projects for cities and regions.
Overview of analytical, forecasting, evaluation and managerial methods.
Cooperation and partnership in development of cities and regions: forms, examples, success factors.
Development strategies for cities and regions - examples of good practices from the Czech Republic and abroad.
Practical problems and restrictions of strategic planning and management of cities and regions: possible solutions.
