Course objectives:
|
To acquaint students with the development and specifics of the West Bohemia architecture, especially focus on the most important monuments and key architects.

Requirements on student
|
Written thematic work, professional studies, knowledge of specified literature. Semester test.

Content
|
1. Romanesque architecture- rotunda stands, rural churches, monastery architecture.
2. Priority of West Bohemia in the early Gothic architecture - Pivoň, Horšovský Týn, Nepomuk and Strakonice smelting works.
3. Medieval urbanism of royal cities and retainers towns in est Bohemia.
4. Gothic town fortifications (Tachov, Horažďovice, Domažlice, Klatovy, Plzeň, Stříbro, Cheb).
5. Klatovy region
6. Domažlice region
7. Part of the course will be one day tour to the sights of Western Bohemia

Basic orientation in historical architecture and the various periods of styles, with apliacations on the development of cultural landscape. |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
Critically work with professional and artistic literature to master the history of architecture |

Learning outcomes
|
Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
to recognize individual historical styles, to evaluate the peculiarities of the development of West Bohemian architecture in the transformations of time. Explain the economic, social and cultural causes that have led to changes in building styles. Recognize and compare the developmental features of individual buildings. |
Skills - skills resulting from the course: |
to find and use reliable sources of information for creative work, to analyze individual artistic styles based on them, to make a didactic, convincing, clear and objective presentation of the period in the West Bohemian architecture, to work in the field, to write a seminar paper on a specific topic. |
