Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with the basic historical development and the historical range of the Holy Roman Empire (since 1512 the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation) from its constitution in the 10th century under the reign of Ota I. until its extinction at the beginning of the 19th century. The student will get an overview of the medieval German imperial dynasties and their outstanding figures (including Friedrich Barbarossa), as well as about the unity of the empire with the Czech lands. Special attention is paid to the Luxemburgs as emperors and Czech kings at the same time, as well as to the development of the empire in early modern times under the almost exclusive government of the Habsburgs.
