Course objectives:
|
The aim of the seminars will be to describe and practice the basics of the Bulgarian language, its phonetic and grammatical system and spelling rules. The students will learn to read and write elementary dictations in Bulgarian and understand the meaning of words, expressions and grammar structure of short sentences.

Requirements on student
|
Students are required to pass mid-term and final test, prepare themselves continuously to for seminars and to take part in discussion on a chosen topic from Bulgarian realia.
Students are also required to read regularly the given texts in foreign language, to work out homework. The homework is usually in the form of oral presentation or it could be an analysis of pre-defined texts which is agreed on by student as well as teacher. The homework is checked by the teacher.

Topics of particular lectures are: history of Bulgarian language, apocrypha, writings of "god lovers", medieval short stories and legends, Bulgarian hagio-graphic tradition, national customs and holidays, Bulgarian traditional songs genres and themes, Bulgarian cuisine and crafts, culture of being, lexical influence of Turks (lexical realia), way of life during different times, ethnographic description of flat, possession, acts, traditions and social relationships (lexical realia), brief history of Bulgarian painting and music, theatre and film, revivalist literature, national writings and journalism, overview of literature from Liberation till today, the most important figures, Bulgarian national psychology, current Bulgarian mentality, brief description of Czech-Bulgarian cultural relations.
Topics of particular seminars: adverbs gradation, role and classification, verbs ? participles, diversity of past verb tenses, grammatical-semantic variations of verb (renarrative and dubitative, imperfect, existing forms of Bulgarian participles), differences participles, conditionals, aspect - perfect, imperfect, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions ? basic classification, general meaning of prepositions - proximity, sameness and differences in comparison with Czech. Topics for discussion will be dealt with according to the text book.

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
When having completed the course, students will be able to use enriched Bulgarian vocabulary in everyday communication. Students will be familiar with basic grammar rules of Bulgarian and it enables them to learn new vocabulary with respect to special features of Bulgarian-Czech language situation. Students will be able to use basic phrases when introducing themselves, shopping or in other social situations. Students will also understand specific features of Bulgarian history and know basic knowledge of Bulgaria and Bulgarian language. Main objective of the course is that the students will be able to communicate in Bulgarian. |
